Sleeping three hours daily - Polyphasic Sleep

After reading a blog at http://www.stevepavlina.com I decided to give Polyphasic Sleep a chance.

So yesterday evening, (Friday night) I was up all night, reading the website, getting some background to polyphasic sleeping. I decided then, that I would stay awake all night, and give it a shot. So heading off to the supermarket, to buy some supplies for my juicing the following morning, and to get stocked up for this experiment.

Well, at about 9am, I finally, after being awake a full day, got my first 'nap'.

Unfortunately, it seems everyone at home, (my brother and dad) are ready to ridicule my efforts. So I guess the evidence will have to speak for itself.

Apart from having eaten chicken for dinner, and 'overslept' my 9pm nap by a half hour, everything seems to be going to plan so far. Just going to finish watching a movie and take my 12am nap at 12.30am.

I figure, from reading Steve Pavlina's blog of his experiment with polyphasic sleeping, that a certain degree of flexibility naturally develops itself, once the body learns to re-adjust.

Will certainly spend more time reading Steve's website tonight, and learn more about Polyphasic sleeping, based on other people's experiences, from their contributions to his blog.

In the meantime, it seems that apart from this one source of information, I'll have to read more about polyphasic sleeping, to give myself a nice solid foundation to work from. The last thing I want is to rely on my family for their support in this somewhat difficult challenge.... as long as I have a solid mental foundation, and I'm happy to play with this experiment for the next few weeks, I'm sure I'll be able to get myself adjusted to this new sleeping pattern.

It'll be interesting to see what kind of mindset it takes to re-adjust ones sleeping habits! I've started with the end in mind, and I'm already thinking of time differently - though I should be able to experience the transitions a little more personally, instead of trying to re-create someone elses experience.

I remember hearing from an all raw vegan eating resident of a permaculture community in spain ( I think it might be at ecoforest.org) of an experiment that was carried out in a house that he was living in in manchester whilst at uni. The house was all raw or at least vegetarian, and they spent a whole week without sleep. I'm not sure if they included naps or not. But what they found was that after the first few days, of tiredness being worked out of their systems, they started to experience a natural improvement in their physical mental and emotional wellbeing.

I think I'm going to set myself some 'metrics' to allow me to measure my progress and track the changes that occur during this transition from monophasic sleep to polyphasic sleep. If I manage to pull this one off, then I may just be able to work a normal job, and run a business full time, at home, without too much trouble, as long as I'm able to have a decent 'presence of being', and start to see time through this new lens of being always awake.
